To all the friends and family of the ladies’ getaway,
The first ladies' getaway started over 27 years ago as a way for the women of our congregation to “get away from it all,” and focus on prayer, study, and fellowship for a weekend. That must have resonated with a lot of people, as this event has grown to include hundreds of women from around the country. However, “for everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven,” and the time has come to say goodbye to the Lafayette Ladies’ Getaway.
After much prayer and discussion, the team has decided the getaway is no longer the best way to serve the needs of our ladies. The team has been made up of many wonderful women over the years who have had to step away for one reason or another. At a recent meeting, we realized the majority of the current team is feeling that pull. As our numbers have grown, so have the demands on our time as the planning committee, causing us to reevaluate our priorities. Many of us feel that we have neglected some of our own in order to serve the getaway. The cost of renting camp tecumseh continues to increase, making it impractical for many to attend. We love each and every one of you, but for us, this is a season of circling the wagons and drawing closer to our spiritual family at home.
As we say goodbye, we also want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who has attended, spoken, led prayers and songs, invited others, helped with technology, and supported our efforts all these years. God has used each of you to bless us and all the other women who have been a part of this group over the years. Though we feel this is the best decision for us at this time, our hearts are heavy as we think of all of you.
We have met so many passionate, encouraging, and caring women through the getaway, and we would like to remind you all, “as each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (1 Pet 4:10). We cannot wait to see what God will accomplish through all of you as you use your gifts to serve one another in your own communities.
Onward for His glory,
The Getaway Team
